Groan Part Ways With Drummer And Vocalist …   Leave a comment

Sad news comes to me this morning via email, yes it is true, the Groan camp have taken a major blow with not one, but two members leaving. I hope the band can bounce back soon, this is depressing news….Ed

UK Doom ‘n’ Rollers GROAN have parted ways with drummer, Thor’s Hammer, and vocalist, Mazzereth.

The original line-up of the band played two final shows together in Leeds and Burnley last weekend before rumours doubting the band’s future began to circulate online. Responding to whispers that the band had split up, bassist Leigh Jones (a.k.a. Forest-Dwelling Fuzz Creature) says regarding the band’s status and future:

“All previous plans for Groan are taking a major back seat. Recording our second album and touring are taking a backseat while The Riff Wizard and I settle on a new line up and finish writing our next album with new members. They say that there are two sides to every story.

I’m sure the story of Groan’s past fortnight has four sides. Mazz felt he couldn’t give the band the dedication it deserved and will now concentrate on his TURBO-BLUES trio Ratz Ass, while Thor’s Hammer is probably making hats out of tinfoil somewhere. Our Ozzy has left and now we need a Dio. It seems our first line up lasted exactly the same length of time as Deep Purple’s, and we know how excellent their second line up was”.

The remaining band members are holding open auditions for vocalists and welcome any potential singers to get in touch directly with the band. Auditions are not yet being held for drummers.

GROAN’s debut album “The Sleeping Wizard” was released in October 2010 through Doomanoid Records to vast critical praise. A split EP with Finnish doom rockers Vinum Sabbatum is to be released this summer through Doomanoid Records (Release date TBC).
